What does it all mean? Why should we bother? What's with all the Rs?
A GatoRRRRR is a person participating in the SF State environment to Reduce, Re-use, Recycle, Rot, and Re-think.
Recycling at SFSU
76% of our overall waste was diverted from the landfill in 2007, surpassing the City of San Francisco’s goals of 75% by 2010.
This is accomplished through diverting recyclable and compostable materials from our waste streams, including: food waste, green waste, paper, glass, bottles, and our construction and demolition waste.
Goals
Attaining Zero Waste by 2020, the first step is to reduce waste, then reuse, and then recycle.
Diverting waste into three streams (trash, recyclables & compost), placing three disposal containers around our campus, including classrooms, offices, lobbies, and plazas.
3 Streams of Waste
Garbage – ‘Wet’ Trash
Food wrappers, facial tissue, plastic bags
Single Stream Recycling
All mixed paper, all bottles, aluminum cans, hard plastic containers, clean paper not stained with food
Please no coffee cups or paper plates, those can compost
Compost
Any food waste, yard waste, paper plates/containers, coffee cups (no lids)
